The Outlaw Plastic Syndicate is a Collective of Indie Toy creators, dedicated to boosting the visibility of the Art Toy movement through public outreach and event planning. It is our belief that toys are a ubiquitous and accessible media form that serves as fertile ground for cultural discourse and critical inquiry. We host Toronto Toy Riot, a two day expo celebrating the world of hand made art toys, designer toys, appropriation art and pop culture ephemera.
Skot Deeming (aka Yoyodyne Toys) is a Toronto-based interdisciplinary artist, curator, and scholar whose practice is rooted in the radical potential of DIY aesthetics. His work traverses the boundaries of media art, underground culture, and speculative design, exploring how grassroots creativity reshapes dominant narratives in art, technology, and culture.
Skot’s ethos is grounded in the interzones: between play and critique, analog and digital, scholar and maker, punk and pedagogue. He approaches toys and media as sites for critical, cultural excavation; working in the messy, joyful, rebellious edges of play, creative expression and scholarship.
His work has been exhibited in galleries, conventions and alternative spaces across the globe, including the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Museum, La Mama, and Museo del Juguetes Antiguo Mexicano.
J Bragg (Grayskulltoys) remixes ’80s action figures, sci-fi, and Japanese sofubi into small-batch resin art toys with a bootleg spirit. Since 2022, their hand-sculpted and cast creations have mixed nostalgia, humor, and cultural commentary, turning familiar icons into unexpected collectibles. Their work has appeared at DKE Con, Clutter Gallery’s [IN] Action 12, and Dollhouse Gallery’s Mint On Card. Rooted in DIY toy culture, J champions grassroots shows and the independent artists who keep the scene weird and interesting.
Dominic Spina (Doc Horror) is a mixed medium artist who brings his macabre ideas to life through means of hand sculpting, scratch building, kitbashing, mold making and casting. He creates miniature dioramas and figurines, original sculpts and resin toys inspired by the horror genre.
